Get rid of all your cards first. The order you finish in decides your seat, and your rank, in the next round.
Cards go from 1, the best, to 12, the worst, and there are as many copies of each card as its number. Two Jokers are wild: they count as any number.
The Greater Dalmuti starts. Play one or more cards of the same number. The next player must play the same amount of cards with a lower number, or pass. When everyone else has passed, the turn comes back to you: play more cards onto your pile, start something new, or pass to let the next player start.
The first player out becomes the Greater Dalmuti and sits at the head of the table; the last one out becomes the Greater Peon. Everyone in between gets a rank by the order they finished in.
From the second round on, the Peons pay taxes: the Greater Peon gives their two best cards to the Greater Dalmuti, and the Lesser Peon gives their best card to the Lesser Dalmuti. The Dalmuti then give back any cards they like.
Dealt both Jokers? Declare a revolution before taxes are paid and nobody pays this round. If the Greater Peon declares it, the whole table turns upside down.
